Portal Access

Who can have a portal account?

Watch how to create an account on MyChildren’s (desktop)

Parents
  • Parents (and legal guardians) can access the health records of their children who are under the age of 18.
  • Each parent should have a separate portal account.
  • Each parent can add all their children to their MyChildren’s Patient Portal account.
  • Once a child turns 18, parents will no longer have access to the child’s records unless the parent is the legal guardian.
Patients
  • Patients 13 and older can have their own accounts.
  • Once patients turn 18, parents will not have access to their records unless they are the legal guardian.

Turning 18

Once a child turns 18, parents will no longer have access to their child’s information. The child cannot grant access to their parent to restore access. To retain access, the parent must be the court-appointed legal guardian and submit guardianship documents. If the parent has other children under the age of 18 on the account, these records will remain available. The patient can sign up for their own account if they don’t already have one.

Guardianship

If you are the court-appointed legal guardian of a child over the age of 18, you will need to provide guardianship documents to Boston Children’s to retain portal access. The PDF documents can be emailed to mychildrenssupport@childrens.harvard.edu.

Without guardianship documents, we cannot provide portal access to the parents of children over the age of 18.

Teen’s Health Information

Parents can access all their teen’s health information except for medications and after-visit summaries. Parents can request prescription renewals by selecting the Add medication link on the Prescription Renewal page. Patients between 13 and 17 can view their medications if they have their own account.
